Percentage of Out of State Money
Ward Connerly repeatedly states that there exists a broad base of support for his initiatives. The campaign finance reports tell a different story. The overwhelming majority of all contributions to the 2008 anti-affirmative action initiative campaigns come from Connerly's American Civil Rights Coalition and Super Tuesday for Equal Rights, a subsidiary organization of ACRC.
As of mid September, 97% of all contributions to each state committee have come from Connerly's organizations, which do not have to report their contributors as they are currently classified under tax law. A total of $2,845,415.76 has been raised in order to fund the equal opportunity roll backs. Of that vast amount only three percent - a mere $73,608.72 -- has been raised in the states in which the campaigns are (or were) actually taking place.
