Afraid of Disclosure? What Are You Hiding?

Diane Schachterle, has served in various positions at ACRI and ACRC. She was director of public affairs and treasurer of ACRC in 2005, and is currently director of policy and planning at ACRI. She has also served as assistant director of ACRI, and writes frequently for Connerly’s newsletter. She is also secretary of the Sacramento County Taxpayers League.

In March 2008, Schachterle, acting as director of policy and planning for ACRC, requested an advisory opinion from the Nebraska Accountability and Disclosure Commission as to whether or not ACRC would have to report its donors under Nebraska lobbying regulation if it supported the NCRI ballot question committee.

Clearly ACRC felt burned by having to disclose the donors to its California Prop 54 campaign, whom Schachterle has described as “extremely upset that their contributions had been disclosed.” The Nebraska commission adopted an advisory opinion that if it contributed over $10,000 to the Nebraska initiative, then any contributions over $200 to ACRC were reportable.

Up until May, ACRC’s contributions stayed below the $10,000 level, but from May 12-22, 2008, ACRC contributed $117,000 to the Nebraska Civil Rights Initiative. This would appear to raise the question of whether ACRC’s contributors are reportable to the Nebraska Commission.
